*Due to illness Chödje Gawang Rinpoche will not be able to attend the weekend, all teachings will be given by Lama Jigmé Namgyal

This is a very special weekend with  Lama Jigmé Namgyal. He will speak about 'Dewachen', which can roughly be translated as 'pure land of great joy'. This field came about due to the merits and selfless devotion of Buddha Amitabha, the Buddha of boundless light and love. Everyone who directs her/his practice to Amithaba is reborn in his pure field. Such an aspiration creates favorable conditions for developing the enlightened mind. Amithaba made this vow out of compassion. Dewachen is a gift to practitioners who strive to develop virtues such as love and compassion. Through a strong longing to be reborn in Dewachen, it becomes easier to travel to this field after death. But of course there isn't really a question of making a trip, since the field of Amithaba is already present right now. Due to the state of ignorance, we are unaware of its presence.

*Lama Gawang Rinpoche entered a Tibetan monastery as a seven-year-old, and started going into retreats when he was nine. He was instructed by his teachers to go to the Netherlands, and started a Buddhist study and meditation center in Hantum (Friesland). His wisdom, humor, charisma and activities have a benevolent and peaceful influence on his environment. Lama Gawang is known to be the highest representative of Tibetan Buddhism in the Netherlands. More information is available at www.karmakagyu.nl.

Lama Jigmé Namgyal was born into a nomad family in Amdo, Eastern Tibet. He studied at the Buddhist University Sertar Larung Gar. At the request of his teachers, Lama Jigmé came to Europe, and started the centers Phuntsok Chö Ling in Luxembourg and Rotterdam. Lama Jigmé has a great sense of humor, and explains the Buddhist teachings in a way that's accessible to everyone.
